Mike got into motorcycles when he was 22 years old. After spending a lot of money trying to make a muscle car (1969 Mustang) go fast, he found he could go a lot faster for a lot cheaper on a motorcycle. He road raced from 1994-1998 (on a Yamaha FZ700 and Suzuki GSXR1100) and then bought a dirt bike (a Yamaha YZ125 and later a Honda CRF450R and XR600R) in order to improve his riding skills and learn to slide the bike while still maintaining control. Sliding the tires and crashing at 20mph on the dirt is much better than doing it at 150mph on the asphalt! He started racing at local dirt tracks in 2004 and finally returned to road racing in 2006. His goal this year is a top 20 finish at the 200mile Toyota 200 endurance race at Willow Springs International Raceway held in September. He’ll be racing against some of the same top professional AMA riders you see on the Speed Channel on television! Mike races the third Sunday of every month at Willow Springs.
